Lessons in Watercolor..... • Watercolor techniques Have you ever wanted to explore surface options for watercolor. Tired of the papers and framing and glazing with glass and plexi? Have you ever wanted to paint pictures? The answers to these three questions for me is “yes”! For the past decade I have been doing just that from the USA (including Alaska, Sanibel, Naples, Hilton Head, Kiawah Island, Steamboat Springs) to San Miguel, Mexico; Paris, Giverny, Provence, France; Tuscany, Venice, Greece and Turkey; Hawaii, Trinidad, in the Caribbean, and the most recent, South Africa and Sparrow Village. (See news article about trip to Sparrow Village) Some of the paintings on this site are from these experiences and others are from memory or were created in my head. I hope that you will enjoy viewing them. SITE PREVIEW: Painting on Watercolor Canvas is ready Just click on the title above to send payment. It is best viewed with Internet Explorer, as all the pages can be easily found and viewed. Also, to read the book, you will need Adobe Reader. These two items can be downloaded free when you click on the title of the book above. In continuing to paint, I discover new things, and in 2005 I discovered WATERCOLOR CANVAS. (see my News about Watercolor Canvas)I had not read much about it and decided that a book needed to be written, not just to speak about the product and how to use it, but to fill it will inspirational quotes that give the artist courage for change. Using the watercolor canvas is a definite change from the traditional watercolor papers, but many of the techniques are the same. However, the watercolor canvas takes painting a step beyond.
Mixing colors, using brushes familiar to you, optional techniques and the challenge of watercolor are much the same. BUT, there are more options for the finished work. I have suggestions on the use of brushes, paints and finishing techniques that are invaluable for the novice on this new surface. For once artists need not be afraid of trying the “difficult” medium, because now, this product allows changes mid-stream. Just like oil painters, who can paint over mistakes, now the watercolorist can paint out mistakes without the muddy results that happen when the same is done on paper. Browse the subjects in the navigation bar to see images from around the world and my daily life. Enjoy…and please contact me with your thoughts about this site. JUST THINK! ...a new way of presenting watercolors without the glare of glass! Paintings are stretched like oils and framed. The acrylic varnish protects them without the weight and worry of glass. I have returned from my second trip to South Africa, and a trip to a hospice and orphanage named Sparrow Village, for children and adults who are HIV positive or who have AIDS.
