Lakeside, OH, is a summer resort on Lake Erie...a Chautauqua for education, religion and recreation. I have spent many summers vacationing here and painting the cottages and scenes around the village.

Strawberry Festival, (dancing around a Maypole) , Lakeside

Strawberry Festival, (Balloons, games and friendship), Lakeside

Ice cream and cake and lots of music, games and fun take place each year at the Strawberry Festival.

Row of Sunfish, Lakeside

Many summer residents and guests alike enjoy the experience of sailing on Lake Erie in a sunfish.

Tea on the Hotel Porch

Karen Westgate plays the harp for a relaxing afternoon for the guests, who sip tea and enjoy cakes and cookies.

Lake View, Lakeside

Often I sit and watch the waves beat against the rocks along the shore. The flag at the end of the dock is visible in the distance.

Lakeside Sunset

Some nights we skip the evening performance just to be able to enjoy the beautiful sunsets on Lake Erie.

Lakeside Shore

A memorial bell is housed in the little gazebo at the edge of the lake. Some say it was used to call the fisherman in for lunch and dinner in years past. The rocky shore is put there to prevent erosion from the winter storms.

Lakeside Fiddlers

Entertainment in the Steele Memorial takes place in the afternoons. People sit on the benches and on blankets just to enjoy a concert in the shade.

Lakeside Cottage

Some cottages are nestled in the background between others. Around every corner is another interesting summer home.

Hotel Lakeside

The Hotel is being renovated by the Friends of Lakeside, an industrious group of caring men and women who collect antique furniture and bolt ends of Laura Ashley wallpaper to enhance the newly upgraded rooms.(most of them have private baths now!)
It has a captivating view of Lake Erie and a beautiful fountain in the front among the benches and flower gardens.

All Set to Enjoy the Afternoon

Guests gather to enjoy an afternoon concert in the park beside Lake Erie.

Lakeside Cottage

a restored home that was moved to Jasmine from another location.

Rounding the Bend, Lakeside

A new addition to the fun at Lakeside is a carriage ride through this charming community.

Steppin' Out, Lakeside

Danny Boy in action.....just one of several beautiful horses that pull the carriages and surreys through Lakeside.

Waiting for Customers, Lakeside

Standing in front of the Lakeside Pavilion, this carriage is ready for business.

A Memorial Garden

This little garden was planted by the friends of Helen Terpenning who surrounded her beautiful cottage with roses and other flowers. Her cottage was named "Rose Haven" and sits on the east side of the park in Lakeside, in full view of this wonderful tribute to her memory.
This painting is also in my travel diary.

Marblehead Lighthouse/2000

Painted on the spot in my travel diary this summer. I enjoyed chatting with the many people who had come to view the monument and enjoy the historical memories connected with it from the volunteers in the LIghtkeepers house. This was opened to the public in 1998 and tours take you to the top (77 steps). It is the oldest lighthouse in continual use in the USA. The Fresnle lens was removed and placed at the Coast Guard Station in Marblehead. We were inquisitive enough to go for a look. Fascinating!!!!!

Doris Bright's Carousel Horse
Perched each year on the railing of her porch, this horse brings lots of viewers and admirers. This was the first time that I had taken the time to sit and paint it in my sketchbook.

The Fountain at Hotel Lakeside
To sit here and listen ot the water flowing, watching children play and sunfish coming about in the wind is one of the most relaxing things that I do at Lakeside. The other, of course, is painting in my sketch book

The Gathering Place
Prints only

The Pavilion right on Lake Erie, provides shelter and an impressive view of the dock and passing boats. Many events and classes are held on each wing of the Pavilion, or you may just sit and read or meditate. The children's beach and infant pool are just below and adjacent to the lake.
The sunsets from here are spectacular!

Marblehead Lighthouse

This stately Lighthouse is no longer in service, but still adds a sightseeing adventure to the peninsula. It is not far from the Lakeside east gate and offers a wonderful place to have a picnic along the waterfront.
